Coming Soon–Enhancements to IDS Search

On Monday, there will be some enhancements to IDS Search that will enhance the user experience. These changes are based on feedback we’ve received from librarians and users of IDS Search, one round of usability testing at Geneseo, and usability testing of faculty at SUNY Oswego. These enhancements are mostly changes in style and display that will enhance the features of IDS Search.
Also, IDS Search will be optimized for mobile devices. Users with smartphones or mobile devices will only need to visit the standard version of IDS Search.
The enhancements that will be going live on IDS Search on Monday include:
- Increase in number of items displayed in results list from 5 to 10 as a default, with user option to increase further
- Changes to autosearch notification styling and wording
- Streamlined left-hand navigation options
- Enhanced similar items functionality in item record including cover images of similar items
- Mobile device optimization for IDS Search that allows for integration of IDS Search on libraries’ mobile presence
In addition to the enhancements coming next week, the IDS Technology Development Team has identified other areas to focus on in the near future. Stay tuned for details on these future developments.
